Muggia
The fishing town
The village with Istrian-Venetian features
At the furthest tip of Italy, the coast seems to fold in on itself: here opens the Bay of Muggia, a characteristic town with Istrian-Venetian features. Landing in the picturesque dock, it's almost as if you're entering the narrow streets and squares. The Venetian atmosphere is not only evident in the architecture: the dialect, customs, and gastronomic traditions also reveal a rich shared past with the Serenissima Republic of Venice. Looking at Muggia from the sea, the white Istrian stones and colorful houses blend harmoniously with the verdant karst landscape. Framed by seven kilometers of coastline and a crown of hills, they panoramically dominate a vast area, both Italian and Istrian. Don't miss the Muggia Carnival, or "Carneval de Muja," with classic Venetian roots and influences from the Istrian peninsula: a grand spectacle that every year features allegorical floats and colorful masks.
